A comprehensive program that equips you with the foundational knowledge and technical skills needed for a successful career in modern surface mining operations.

The Intermediate Diploma in Surface Mining is a comprehensive, well-structured program spanning six academic semesters followed by six months of on-the-job training in open-pit mines. The program covers a wide range of topics: open-pit mine planning and bench design, drilling and blasting operations, operating heavy equipment such as trucks, excavators, bulldozers, and loaders, waste rock management, and applying occupational health and safety systems at worksites. Trainees gain safe hands-on experience through the institute's advanced simulators before moving into a real mine environment, so graduates are fully prepared for the demands of modern mining operations.

  • Complete all course units: pass all written and performance assessments for every unit in the program (60% minimum passing grade).

  • Complete on-the-job training: successfully finish the required training period while demonstrating practical application of skills in a professional environment.
